Organizational Profile
Anda is an island-town in Pangasinan. It is a part of the
reknowned Hundred Islands. Lying in the Lingayen Gulf, coral
reefs extend along its shores. These provide shelter and
abundant food sources for fish and other aquatic organisms. It
is in this setting that the UP College of Social Work and
Development (CSWCD) Program opened a Community-based Coastal
Resource Management Program (CBCRM) in 1997.
PHDF partnered with the Anda CBCRM together with the local
people's organizations for its Free Email Connectivity Program
in Remote Rural Communities. These are organizations of
farmers and fisherfolks that include the Samahang
Multisectoral sa Carot (SAMUSECA), Samahang Mangingisda sa
Cabungan (SAMACA), Imbo Multisectoral Barangay Organization (IMBO),
and Samahang Multisectoral sa Tondol (SAMUSETO).
The CBCRM Program in Anda, Pangasinan seeks to empower people
to manage, protect and rehabilitate their coastal resources in
order to sustain the well-being of the environment while at
the same time maintaining its carrying capacity for people’s
basic needs.
The free email project opened in July 20, 2001, in a launching
ceremony attended by the town mayor Alice J. Pulido, barangay
officials, and Prof. Sammy Formilleza of the UP CSWCD.
